President Panuelo Offers the Nation’s Condolences to Japan in the Aftermath of Typhoon Hagibis
PALIKIR, Pohnpei—On October 14th, 2019 His Excellency David W. Panuelo, President of the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM), sent a diplomatic note to His Excellency Shinzo Abe, Prime Minister of Japan, offering the Nation’s sincere condolences to the people and Government of Japan during the aftermath of Typhoon Hagibis.
“On behalf of the people and Government of the [FSM], I offer our deepest sympathies and condolences to the people and Government of Japan,” President Panuelo wrote in his diplomatic note. “It can never be repeated often enough that our two countries share common values and common heritage. The people of Japan are the FSM’s family, our brothers and sisters.”
The FSM and Japan share a special bond—“kizuna” in Japanese—referring to the close cultural and socio-economic ties between our two countries. The relationship between the FSM and Japan is impermeable, and the Nation stands with Japan during its time of crisis.
