Parents: Prevent Measles—Vaccinate Your Children

Parents: Prevent Measles—Vaccinate Your Children

Measles is spreading quickly across the Western Pacific region. Measles spreads easily from person to person and can be life-threatening. However, it can be prevented by ensuring a person receives two doses of the Measles vaccine. This vaccine is part of your child's routine immunization and the first dose is given at 12 months of age, and the second dose at 13 months of age. The vaccine is safe and offers the best protection against Measles.

In addition to this, make sure that your children aged between 6 months to 5 years old receive Vitamin A supplementation every six months. Vitamin A supplementation will improve their overall health and protection from measles.

The FSM Department of Health and Social Affairs, in close collaboration with the four State Departments of Health Services, advises and encourages all parents in the FSM to keep your loved ones safe. Measles and Vitamin A deficiency are preventable.

Together, let’s help protect and prevent our children from life-threatening diseases and conditions.
