FSM Postal Service Delivering Christmas Presents to Pohnpei Remote Islands December 10th, Yap Neighboring Islands December 16th

PALIKIR, Pohnpei—This coming December 10th, 2019, the Postal Service of the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) will, through partnership with Okeanos Foundation for the Sea and their Vaka Motu canoes, sail from Pohnpei proper to the islands of Sapwuahfik, Nukuoro, and Kapingamarangi to deliver Christmas packages. The Pohnpei-based Vaka Motu will then return to pickup more gifts so as to sail to the Eastern islands of Mwoakilloa and Pingelap.

On December 16th, the Postal Service of the FSM will set sail from Yap proper eastward towards the neighboring islands of Yap State.

The FSM Postal Service will accept and send mail in the same manner as mail sent abroad, and FSM Postal Service staff will be the ones loading Christmas packages on the Vaka Motus.

Only Christmas packages will be accepted for this special Christmas service to the remote islands; bulky items, such as housing materials, and flammable materials, will not be able to be sent on the Vaka Motus.

Citizens desiring a similar service in Chuuk State are encouraged to advocate for Chuuk State’s acquisition of one or more Vaka Motu canoes.
