President Panuelo Joins NORMA & Fisheries Partners in Delivering Christmas Presents to Hospital Patients
PALIKIR, Pohnpei—On December 23rd, 2019, His Excellency David W. Panuelo, President of the Federated States of Micronesia, joined Eugene Pangelinan, Executive Director of the National Oceanic Resource Management Authority (NORMA), Marko Kamber, President of Caroline Fisheries Corporation, representatives of other domestic fishing companies, and NORMA staff to surprise patients at Pohnpei State Hospital with presents.
The annual tradition of surprising hospital patients with the Christmas spirit began in 2018. “When I saw all these cars beeping and throwing candies,” Executive Director Pangelinan said, “I thought we should do something for those in the hospital, too.”
Gift boxes, buckets, and bags were prepared by NORMA staff with donations from all the major fisheries companies operating in the FSM, including Liancheng Fisheries, Caroline Fisheries Corporation, Taiyo Micronesia, Kasar Fisheries Corporation, National Fisheries Corporation, Dayang Seafoods, City Pro Management, Diving Seagull Inc., and FSM Seafoods. Gifts were available for every demographic imaginable, from newborns to little boys and girls, and from men and women to parents and grandparents. President Panuelo noted his appreciation to the FSM fishing industry, both for their generosity this Christmas and for the essential role they play in the Nation’s economic development.
The FSM National Government expresses its appreciation to NORMA and all of the fishing companies for their generosity, and to the Honorable Kapilly Capelle, Director of Health Services at Pohnpei State Government, Mr. Johnny Hadley, and all the rest of the Pohnpei State Hospital staff for their assistance in facilitating the President’s visit.
