“To Those of You Who Are Aiding Our Stranded Citizens Abroad: Thank You,” Says President Panuelo, Vice President George, and Governors Oliver, Sigrah, Elimo, and Falan
PALIKIR, Pohnpei—On June 10th, 2020 His Excellency David W. Panuelo, President of the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) discussed in his weekly meeting with the Governors of the States of Yap, Chuuk, Pohnpei, and Kosrae, among other matters, how the Nation and its States are assisting FSM citizens stranded abroad through a one-time financial assistance package. During the meeting, the Governors rightly noted that, though the financial assistance package is both well-intentioned and based in well-reasoned analysis, countless individuals—some of whom are FSM citizens permanently residing in Guam and Hawaii or the U.S. mainland, and some of whom are U.S. citizens and even citizens of other countries permanently residing in those jurisdictions—are assisting in the housing and feeding of our citizens stranded abroad. The Governors noted that they would appreciate it if a communication representing all of them and the Nation at large were prepared to thank these individuals and families for their aid to the FSM’s citizens stranded abroad.
The FSM National Government and the State Governments of Yap, Chuuk, Pohnpei, and Kosrae express their explicit and genuine appreciation to all individuals and families for helping our citizens stranded abroad during these challenging times.
In a statement, President Panuelo said, on behalf of himself, Vice President George, the Honorable Henry S. Falan, the Honorable Johnson S. Elimo, the Honorable Reed B. Oliver, and the Honorable Carson K. Sigrah: “To those of who you are aiding our stranded citizens abroad: thank you, thank you so much. We acknowledge your generosity of spirit and kind hearts, and thank you for making these challenging times a little easier for our citizens who are stuck and not yet able to return home. While we are doing all we can in the FSM to prepare for the eventual repatriation of our citizens, we acknowledge that you are sacrificing your own time, resources, and financial capacity to care for our citizens. Thank you for expressing our Nation’s values of sharing peace, friendship, cooperation, and love in our common humanity to our citizens.”
