Micronesians Traveling Abroad Are Advised They May Be Subject to Mandatory Quarantine; One Out of Five Micronesian Adults Fully Vaccinated

PALIKIR, Pohnpei—Citizens of the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) who travel to foreign jurisdictions, for any purpose, are advised that they may be subject to mandatory quarantine. COVID-19 testing is required 72 hours prior to travel to the United States of America. Some U.S. States may specify specific types of tests, while the State of Hawaii will only accept test results from laboratories that have been awarded “Trusted Partner” Status. FSM laboratories have not yet been awarded this designation, however the FSM application is currently under review. As a result, FSM citizens who travel to some U.S. jurisdictions, such as the State of Hawaii, may be subject to a mandatory ten-day quarantine process despite carrying documentary evidence of a negative COVID-19 test. Citizens are advised to check the relevant Government and travel websites for the location they are traveling to for any additional requirements.

Citizens traveling abroad are encouraged to carry upon their persons documentary evidence of their negative COVID-19 test; ideally, traveling citizens will also be carrying upon their persons documentary evidence of completing the COVID-19 vaccination process. Similar to the FSM, the U.S. has both National and State travel requirements; individuals traveling abroad may be required to register online with the relevant State’s travel website. For the State of Hawaii specifically, this site is: https://travel.hawaii.gov/
