FSM COVID-19 Update July 25 2022

The text below is from the Division of Public Information's mass email.

ALCON,

Attached is the COVID-19 update report for July 25, 2022. Please disseminate where appropriate and in local language when possible.

We're still in the process of fine-tuning these reports for readability and accessibility. With the interest of simply getting you the information quickly, and in a digestible fashion, I'm including some notes below on how to interpret the attached report.

First--the cases written for Chuuk and Yap are reflective of previous repatriation flights. All of those cases were border cases. Both Yap and Chuuk remain COVID-19 free in their communities.

Second--the term "hospitalization" in the context of the attached report means "a person is positive for COVID-19 and is presently under medical care at a state or private hospital."

Third--the term "recovered" in the context of the attached report means "a person who WAS under medical care at a state or private hospital is no longer positive for COVID-19 and has left the hospital's care."

Again, it is our intention to fine-tune the daily COVID-19 sitreps to the point where the above notes aren't necessary--but, for now, our belief is that the above clarifications may be valuable to you.

I am advised to report that the FSM has recorded one death, which occurred in the State of Pohnpei.  I am permitted to relay that the deceased is an elderly man who possessed co-morbidities. I have not been provided information on the deceased's vaccination status.

I am advised by my colleagues at the Office of the President that Vice President Yosiwo P. George, while still in hospital, is improving.

I can confirm that President David W. Panuelo, through our Consulate General in the U.S. Territory of Guam, has received an offer for a meeting between himself and the Governor of Guam. The purpose of that proposed meeting, I am advised, would include the Government of Guam offering some form of COVID-19 related assistance.

I can confirm that in a cabinet meeting held today, July 25th, 2022, the FSM Department of Health & Social Affairs advised that two U.S. CDC teams are due to arrive in the State of Pohnpei and the State of Kosrae tomorrow, July 26th, 2022. I am permitted to relay that the teams include medical epidemiologists and risk communications specialists.

I can confirm that President David W. Panuelo intends to meet with the Governors of Yap, Chuuk, Pohnpei, and Kosrae tomorrow, July 26th, 2022, to discuss the community spread of COVID-19 in the FSM.

I am permitted to relay that numerous FSM Government Cabinet and senior officials are presently positive for COVID-19, though I am not permitted through this communication to provide further details on this at this time.

I am permitted to relay that it has been the observation of FSM Government officials that several businesses and restaurants are temporarily closing down by their own volition (i.e. not by Government mandate, but due to a lack of healthy staff able to attend their place of employment).

This concludes the updates I am advised and permitted to relay at this time. There will be additional updates tomorrow evening.
