Hagåtña, Guam, September 1, 2023 (FSMIS) – While en route to Yap for the first official state visit, H.E. President Wesley W. Simina and T.H. Vice President Aren B. Palik and members of their delegation took the opportunity to meet with T.H. Governor Lourdes Leon Guerrero and T.H. Lt. Governor Josh Tenorio at the Governor’s Complex.
President Simina meets with Governor Guerrero, presents $400,000 donation for Typhoon Mawar relief assistance
During the meeting President Simina presented Governor Guerrero with a donation on behalf of the Federated States of Micronesia, in the amount of $400,000 dollars to assist with ongoing Typhoon Mawar relief efforts, the super typhoon that devastated the island in May of this year. President Simina conveyed the FSM’s solace and solidarity, and commended the people of Guam for their resilience and fortitude in its aftermath as they continue to rebuild, and further acknowledged and expressed his gratitude to T.H. Speaker Moses and the FSM Congress for its swift action in appropriating the funds for the donation.
Governor Guerrero acknowledged the rapid response that was provided through the Pohnpei Utilities Corporation (PUC) personnel that was deployed to Guam to assist with restoring islandwide power, to which she expressed her gratitude, particularly to the Governor of Pohnpei, T.H. Reed Oliver for that assistance, and further conveyed her gratitude for the $400k donation, and extended her message of thanks to the FSM Congress and the people of the FSM.
Following the presentation of the donation, President Simina and Governor Guerrero discussed an array of topics of mutual interest, including matters relating to the Micronesia Island Forum (MIF), the recent US CODEL visit to the region as well as the Pacific Island Forum (PIF). President Simina also expressed his appreciation to the government of the United States and people of Guam for being a long-standing host to many FSM citizens, as well as its support to FSM citizens residing in Guam following Typhoon Mawar.
