On April 8, 2016, President Peter M. Christian issued a Commission in a ceremony for Mr. Tony A. deBrum formally appointing him as an Honorary Consul of the Federated States of Micronesia in the Republic of the Marshall Islands.  This marks the first time that the FSM Government has established an Honorary Consulate in the Marshall Islands.
 
During the ceremony, President Christian thanked Mr. de Brum for accepting his appointment, and looked forward to working with him and the government of the Marshall Islands in strengthening the relationship between the two countries.  In accepting his appointment, Mr. de Brum thanked President Christian and he indicated that he would do his best in promoting the relationship between the two countries.  The President also presented the FSM Flag to Mr. de Brum, who will fly the flag at his new office in Majuro. The ceremony was held after the FSM Government received consent from the government of the Republic of the Marshall Islands on the appointment of Mr. Tony A. de Brum.
 
Attending the ceremony were members of the President’s cabinet and staff from the President’s Office and Department of Foreign Affairs.
