Presentation of Credentials Ceremony of His Excellency Ambassador Gilberto Fonseca Guimaraes De Moura of Brazil to the Federated States of Micronesia

Palikir, Pohnpei, FSM - On February 20, 2024, in a ceremony filled with dignitaries and officials, His Excellency Ambassador Gilberto Fonseca Guimaraes De Moura presented his credentials to His Excellency President Wesley W. Simina, marking the formal accreditation of Ambassador De Moura as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Brazil to the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM).

During the ceremony, Ambassador De Moura delivered his remarks and expressed his heartfelt condolences for the passing of the late Senator Florencio Singkoro Harper of Chuuk State and the late Senator Paliknoa Welly of Kosrae State. The Ambassador stated that the Federative Republic of Brazil is more than ready to engage with the FSM in numerous ways, including through moving forward with a Cooperation Agreement. The Ambassador also shared how proud he is of the FSM’s and Brazil’s legacy of natural beauty and maritime riches, and concluded his remarks by quoting the Simina-Palik administration’s theme, “Our unity is our strength and prosperity.”

In his statement, President Wesley W. Simina warmly welcomed Ambassador De Moura and expressed his appreciation for Brazil's commitment to establishing formal diplomatic relations with FSM. He congratulated Ambassador De Moura on his accreditation and emphasized the importance of this milestone in strengthening the partnership between FSM and Brazil.

Addressing the pressing issue of climate change, President Simina emphasized the universal concern and the need for collective action. President Simina also shared the challenges faced by FSM, particularly the impact of climate change on the islands, including drought conditions, water shortages, and saltwater intrusion. He expressed gratitude for Brazil's vast experience in addressing climate change and highlighted the potential for cooperation and knowledge sharing in this area.
