President Panuelo Swears-In John Fritz and Roger Mori as Ambassador and Deputy Chief of Mission, respectively, of the FSM to Japan

TOKYO, Japan—On October 21st, 2019 His Excellency David W. Panuelo, President of the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM), conducted the oath of office ceremony for His Excellency John Fritz, Ambassador of the FSM to Japan, and for the Honorable Roger Mori, Deputy Chief of Mission (DCM) of the FSM to Japan. The ceremony occurred on the margins of the President’s attendance to the Enthronement of His Majesty, the Emperor.

“Do you, John R. Fritz, solemnly swear that you will faithfully execute the duties and responsibilities of the office to which you have been appointed, and will, to the best of your ability, uphold, promote, and support the laws and Constitution of the Federated States of Micronesia, so help you God?” said President Panuelo.

“I do,” said Ambassador Fritz.

“Do you, Roger S. Mori, solemnly swear that you will faithfully execute the duties and responsibilities of the office to which you have been appointed, and will, to the best of your ability, uphold, promote, and support the laws and Constitution of the Federated States of Micronesia, so help you God?” said President Panuelo.

“I do,” said DCM Mori.

“Appointing you was very easy,” President Panuelo said in his remarks. “And confirming you in Congress was also very easy—and there’s a reason why; our entire Nation has full confidence in you. Ambassador and [DCM], you both have been very diligent in the work you do here in Japan to promote the deep relationship we have between our two countries.”

“I declared that our foreign policy under this new administration will be very aggressive, and I think you’ve seen that,” the President continued. “On behalf of the [FSM National] Government, we say how proud we are of the loyalty, the dedication, and the hard work you do in the promotion of our Nation’s development and our Nation’s relations with the great people of Japan.

I am very honored and humbled,” Ambassador Fritz said in his remarks, “to have been given this opportunity, Mr. President, to remain in Tokyo. Thank you for having that trust to serve you as well as our people and Nation. Our relationship with Japan is a very good one…and I must assure you that I will do my utmost effort in promoting and strengthening it.”

“I just want to take a brief moment to express my sincere appreciation, Mr. President,” DCM Mori said, “for the trust that you have put upon my shoulders. I also wish to thank Congress for agreeing to your appointment for my being here as the [DCM]. Mr. President, I promise nothing but my best to help you in your effort in building our country, and in working with…Japan in strengthening our relationship.”
