Palikir, Pohnpei ( July 27, 2023) His Excellency Young-kyu Park, Republic of Korea’s representative to the Joint Inauguration Ceremonies paid a courtesy call on President Wesley W. Simina and Vice President Aren B. Palik. H.E. Park is the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Korea to the Republic of Fiji and cross-accredited to various countries in the region including the FSM.   In welcoming the Ambassador, President Simina congratulated him on his appointment to represent the Government of the Republic of Korea to the celebrative events and expressed his appreciation for the much assistance in areas of human resource development under the Korea International Cooperation Agency. He also expressed his appreciation for the technical cooperation extended to the FSM and wishes to maximize it in the coming years. President Simina also expressed his regrets in not being able to attend the 1st Korea-Pacific Islands Summit that took place in Seoul this past May, due to scheduling conflicts, and looks forward to reviewing the summit’s outcome documents, namely the Leadership Declaration and Joint Action Plan.   The Ambassador thanked the President for the warm welcome and conveyed that his Mission in Fiji will continue to work together with the FSM to further strengthen the diplomatic relations. President Simina and the Ambassador also discussed finding an opportunity for the Ambassador to present his credentials in the near future.   The President and Ambassador exchanged views on an array of regional and international issues including accessing KOICA (Korea International Cooperation Agency) assistance, fisheries, climate change, candidatures and tourism among others. The Ambassador also shared that following the Summit that took place in May, that his government is looking at opening a new mission in the Micronesian region, to which President Simina welcomed the idea.
