
PALIKIR, Pohnpei — His Excellency Wesley W. Simina, President of the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM), received the credentials of Mr. Mamadou Kane, the second United Nations Resident Coordinator accredited to the North Pacific, during an official presentation ceremony held on October 13th at the President’s Office in Palikir.
Mr. Kane now serves as the highest-ranking UN official in the Micronesian region, with formal
accreditation to the Federated States of Micronesia, the Republic of the Marshall Islands, the Republic of Palau, the Republic of Nauru, and the Republic of Kiribati. His appointment reflects the United Nations’ continued commitment to strengthening its presence and coordination across the five countries of the Micronesian region.
President Simina warmly welcomed Mr. Kane and expressed appreciation for the UN’s longstanding partnership in advancing FSM’s national development priorities. He acknowledged the UN’s critical support in areas such as climate resilience, disaster preparedness, health systems strengthening, and human rights, reaffirming FSM’s commitment to multilateral cooperation.
Mr. Kane conveyed his gratitude for the warm reception and emphasized the UN’s dedication to supporting the aspirations of the Micronesian nations through inclusive, coordinated, and country-driven engagement. He underscored the importance of aligning efforts with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the 2050 Strategy for the Blue Pacific Continent, and the FSM Strategic Development Plan.
The meeting also highlighted FSM’s support for the One UN House initiative in Pohnpei, which aims to enhance the coherence, efficiency, and visibility of UN operations in the North Pacific. President Simina extends his best wishes to Mr. Kane and expresses his confidence in the continued growth of the FSM–UN partnership.
