President Simina and Vice President Palik Receives Courtesy Visit from SPREP

Palikir, Pohnpei — November 5, 2025 — President Wesley W. Simina and Vice President Aren B. Palik received a courtesy visit from a delegation from the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme – SPREP (SPREP), led by Deputy Director General Ms. Easter Chu Shing, at the President’s Office in Palikir.

Discussions focused on shared priorities in safeguarding the environment, addressing the impacts of climate change, and deepening cooperation between the FSM and SPREP. President Simina expressed his appreciation for SPREP’s ongoing support and acknowledged the importance of continued collaboration in addressing pollution and environmental challenges, including the recent oil spill.

Vice President Palik thanked Deputy Director Chu Shing and her delegation for their visit and acknowledged the significance of the newly established SPREP North Pacific Subregional Office in Majuro, noting that it will support stronger and more consistent engagement moving forward.

Ms. Chu Shing thanked the FSM for its continued support of SPREP and expressed her appreciation to both the President and Vice President for the opportunity to hold open discussions on shared areas of interest.

The FSM stands committed to working in close partnership with SPREP to safeguard the environment and strengthen resilience across its islands and communities.
