Simina, President of the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM), attended the celebration of Australia Day at an official reception hosted by the Australian Embassy on January 23, 2026, commemorating Australia’s national day and the strong friendship between the FSM and Australia.
On the occasion, President Simina conveyed warm congratulations to Australia, stating, “On this special occasion, I offer our sincere congratulations to the Government and People of Australia, and to the Australian community who call the FSM home.”
President Simina emphasized the significance of the bilateral relationship, noting that “for the FSM, Australia is more than a donor or diplomatic partner. It is a trusted friend and a member of our Pacific family,” and reaffirmed that the partnership is grounded in mutual respect and a shared vision for a secure, stable, and prosperous Blue Pacific region.
President Simina acknowledged Australia’s longstanding contributions to the FSM’s national development, particularly in maritime security, education, and climate resilience. He underscored that “Australia’s support in maritime security, particularly through the Pacific Maritime Security Program, has been vital in helping us protect our vast Exclusive Economic Zone and marine resources,” while also recognizing the Australia Awards for empowering future leaders of the FSM.
As the FSM confronts the pressing challenges posed by climate change, the President reaffirmed Australia’s role as a steadfast partner, noting that “Australia has stood with us, providing critical technical expertise and support for climate resilience and sustainable development.”
President Simina also expressed the FSM’s heartfelt sympathies following the tragic incident at Bondi Beach, conveying solidarity with Australia and condolences to the victims, their families, and all those affected.
Australian Ambassador, H.E. Jenny Grant, echoed these sentiments, highlighting the strength and longevity of the bilateral relationship. “The Federated States of Micronesia and Australia share a commitment to peace and prosperity—and that defines our relationship.
