President Simina Presents Exequatur to Japan’s Newly Appointed Honorary Consul in Chuuk, Mr. Kasio “Kembo” Mida, Jr.

CHUUK, FSM — His Excellency Wesley W. Simina, President of the Federated States of Micronesia, formally presented the Exequatur to Mr. Kasio “Kembo” Mida, Jr., officially recognizing his appointment as Honorary Consul of Japan in the State of Chuuk, during a ceremony held at the Office of the Governor of Chuuk State on January 28, 2026.

The Presentation of Exequatur Ceremony was attended by His Excellency Nobuo Kagomiya, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the FSM, TH Alexander Narruhn, Governor of Chuuk State, invited guests and family. Brief remarks were delivered by President Simina, Ambassador Kagomiya, and Honorary Consul Mida.

In his remarks, Ambassador Kagomiya highlighted President Simina’s two official working visits to Japan last year, noting their importance in further strengthening FSM–Japan relations. He recalled the President’s meeting with the Prime Minister of Japan in Tokyo, where both leaders reaffirmed cooperation in areas including development partnership, regional stability, and people-to-people exchanges. The Ambassador also referenced President Simina’s subsequent visit to Japan, during which the President was received by His Majesty the Emperor of Japan, reflecting the deep mutual respect and enduring friendship between the two nations.

President Simina emphasized the historic significance of Mr. Mida’s appointment, noting that he is the first Honorary Consul of Japan to be based in Chuuk, and the first such appointment outside the national capital. “This appointment brings our diplomatic partnership closer to the people and strengthens engagement at the community level,” the President said.

President Simina described the occasion as “a celebration of friendship, history, family, and the Kizuna—the bonds of trust, friendship, and mutual respect—that have grown between the Federated States of Micronesia and Japan over generations.”

President Simina also noted that as a Micronesian of Japanese descent, Mr. Mida personally reflects the deep historical and people-to-people ties that continue to define the FSM–Japan partnership.

The FSM and Japan share a longstanding relationship grounded in mutual respect, close cooperation, and enduring cultural and historical connections, which continue to be strengthened through diplomatic engagement at both the national and community levels.
