PALIKIR, Pohnpei — June 11, 2026 — The Honorable Aren B. Palik, Vice President of the Federated States of Micronesia, administered the oath of office to two reappointed members of national boards during a ceremony held in Palikir.Mrs. Maria Laaw, representing the private sector, was sworn in for a second term on the Board of Directors of the Federated States of Micronesia Petroleum Corporation (FSMPC), while Mr. Peter Garamfel, representing Yap State, was sworn in for another term on the Board of Directors of the National Oceanic Resource Management Authority (NORMA).
The oath-taking ceremony marked the continuation of their service and commitment to supporting the important work of their respective organizations. Their reappointments reflect the confidence placed in their leadership, experience, and dedication to advancing the interests of the Federated States of Micronesia.
Expressing her appreciation for the opportunity to continue serving, Mrs. Laaw thanked the President, Vice President, Congress, and her fellow board members, as well as FSMPC management and staff, for their trust and support. “I trust that, with the guidance of our principles and the support and coordination of the leaders of the FSM, we will all work together to get our nation through these difficult times,” she said.
Mr. Garamfel also reaffirmed his commitment to public service, stating, “As I assume this renewed responsibility, I remain committed to supporting NORMA in fulfilling its mandate to ensure the sustainable management and conservation of our tuna resources.”
During the ceremony, Vice President Palik congratulated both board members and thanked them for their willingness to continue serving the nation. He emphasized the critical roles that FSMPC and NORMA play in supporting national development through the effective management of the nation’s fuel supply and marine resources.
“The fact that both individuals are being reappointed speaks to the confidence placed in them and the valuable contributions they have made over the years,” Vice President Palik said. “The work carried out by FSMPC and NORMA is vital to the continued development and prosperity of our nation.”
