FSM Advances Security Cooperation with Australia Through Key MOUs

CANBERRA, Australia — March 29, 2026 — The Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) continues to advance its efforts to strengthen regional security cooperation through the signing of key Memoranda of Understanding with Australia.

His Excellency President Wesley W. Simina and the FSM delegation met with the Honorable Pat Conroy, Minister for Pacific Island Affairs, where both sides formalized cooperation through the signing of the FSM–Australia Maritime Security Memorandum of Understanding. The MOU reinforces joint efforts to enhance maritime capacity and safeguard shared ocean resources.

In a separate engagement, the delegation met with the Honorable Tony Burke, Minister for Home Affairs, Immigration and Citizenship, Cyber Security, and the Arts, where two Pacific Policing Initiative Memoranda of Understanding were signed. The MOUs support Pacific Police deployments and strengthen regional cooperation, while also enhancing capacity, professional development, and institutional support for National and State Police forces.

President Simina expressed gratitude to both ministers for Australia’s continued support in strengthening law enforcement capacity, noting the participation of FSM national and state police officers in ongoing training and leadership development initiatives.
