PALIKIR, Pohnpei––On 07 June, 2023, His Excellency Wesley W. Simina—President of the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) and the Honorable Vice President Aren B. Palik were greeted by Pohnpei Catholic School students with flags and songs as they made their entry to Peilapalap. President Simina and Vice President Palik conducted their first of four state visits starting with the host State of Pohnpei. President Simina and Vice President Palik were accompanied by both the First Lady and Second Lady of the FSM with the Cabinet members of the National Government. Speaker Esmond B. Moses and Senator Merlynn Abello-Alfonso also took part in the visit representing the Pohnpei Delegation of the FSM Congress. The National delegation was received by the Honorable Governor Reed Oliver and his delegation which included Honorable Lt. Governor Francisco Ioanis, Honorable Speaker Marvin Yamaguchi, Honorable Chief Justice Nelson Joseph, Iso Nahnken of Madolenihmw John Adolph and Iso Nahnken of U Ihlen Joseph. The visit was highlighted by remarks of welcome by the Lt. Governor Ioanis and Speaker Yamaguchi. Governor Oliver further remarked that the visit speaks volumes in service, leadership and solidarity. “..The visit is a moment of great significance and pride in hosting the National Government and it further strengthens the ties that bind us…” remarked Gov. Oliver. Speaker Moses also took the opportunity to address the visit and shared his appreciation on behalf of the FSM Congress to President Simina and Vice President Palik for making the state visit early in their administration. Speaker Moses further expressed he has “..faith in the President and Vice President and the State leadership [of Pohnpei] to work together…” President Simina shared his remarks addressing the great history between the State of Pohnpei and opportunities for collaboration in moving forward together. President Simina, shared that his and Vice President’s focus will be on the needs and priorities of the FSM states. “The Simina-Palik administration will endeavor to spearhead a robust domestic policy that focuses first and foremost on the pressing and persistent needs and concerns of our people, our states and our nation”. The visit was further highlighted by a cultural sakau ceremony commemorating the historical visit. The ceremony included with it, a traditional performance by the Nett Elementary School students.
