President Panuelo Receives Former President of Nauru, His Excellency Baron Waqa
PALIKIR, Pohnpei—On November 20th, 2019, His Excellency David W. Panuelo, Ninth President of the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM), received His Excellency Baron Waqa, Fourteenth and former President of the Republic of Nauru, in a courtesy call.
The purpose of the meeting was primarily to pay formal greetings and respects—President Waqa was visiting the FSM for pleasure—but over the course of nearly two hours President Panuelo and President Waqa discussed a wide array of topics of mutual interest, with President Waqa recalling and sharing some of his experiences as the President of Nauru for six years. President Panuelo was highly receptive to the experiences, anecdotes, and advice shared by President Waqa, and expressed his very sincere appreciation to President Waqa for visiting the FSM.
“What an honor to receive you, my friend,” President Panuelo said. “You’re always welcome to visit.”
The FSM is proud to receive a guest as distinguished as President Waqa, and is equally proud to stand in solidarity with the people and Government of Nauru as fellow Micronesians.
