Palik, received a Special Envoy delegation from the Republic of Nauru, led by Ms. Kim Aroi, during an official courtesy visit at the President’s Office in Palikir.
President Simina warmly welcomed Ms. Aroi and her delegation, expressing his appreciation for their visit and the continued engagement between the two Micronesian nations. Ms. Aroi conveyed warm greetings from President David W.R Adeang and the Government of Nauru, and briefed President Simina on the purpose of the delegation’s visit. The advance technical team is in the FSM to conduct essential logistical and operational preparations in Chuuk in anticipation of Nauru’s 58th Independence Day Celebrations, scheduled for January 31, 2026. Next year’s commemoration holds special significance as it will also mark the 80th anniversary of the repatriation of Nauruans from Chuuk, following their displacement during World War II.
As part of the anniversary observance, Ms. Aroi shared that President Adeang plans to arrange a dedicated charter flight to Chuuk, allowing a group of Nauruans to visit locations where their ancestors had lived while in wartime exile. This visit is intended to honor their shared history, deepen understanding of past sacrifices, and further strengthen the bonds of friendship between the peoples of Nauru and the FSM.
During the meeting, Ms. Aroi formally presented an official invitation for President Simina to attend the 58th Independence Day celebrations in Nauru. She expressed her government’s appreciation for the FSM’s long-standing cooperation and the continued goodwill between both nations.
President Simina thanked the Special Envoy for the invitation and reaffirmed the FSM’s commitment to its close and enduring partnership with Nauru. Vice President Palik noted the importance of commemorating historical events that connect Pacific communities and emphasized the FSM’s readiness to support efforts that acknowledge shared heritage and promote regional unity.
The courtesy call concluded with both sides expressing optimism for the upcoming commemorations and their shared commitment to continued cooperation and friendship.
