President Simina Joins PNG’s 50th Independence Jubilee in a Show of Pacific Solidarity

Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea — 16 September 2025 — His Excellency President Wesley W. Simina joined the people of Papua New Guinea in celebrating the nation’s 50th Independence Anniversary in Port Moresby. The occasion became a show of Pacific solidarity, as leaders from across the region came together in the wake of the Pacific Islands Forum Leaders Meeting in Honiara.

President Simina congratulated Papua New Guinea for its 50 years of independence, calling its national journey “an inspiration to all Pacific nations.” He reaffirmed FSM’s enduring commitment to work hand-in-hand with its Pacific neighbors toward a resilient and united Blue Pacific Continent.

The Golden Jubilee drew a distinguished gathering of leaders whose presence symbolized regional unity: Palau President Surangel Whipps Jr., Cook Islands Prime Minister Mark Brown, Nauru President David Adeang, Niue Prime Minister Dalton Tangelagi, Tuvalu Prime Minister Feleti Teo, Solomon Islands Prime Minister Jeremiah Manele, and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese among others were also in attendance along with President Simina in honoring PNG’s milestone.

On behalf of the Government and people of the Federated States of Micronesia, President Simina extended heartfelt congratulations to Papua New Guinea on this historic Golden Jubilee.
