
HONOLULU, Hawai’i — February 25, 2026 — On the margins of the Pacific Agenda Summit, His Excellency President Wesley W. Simina held a bilateral meeting with the Hon. Nita Green, Assistant Minister for Northern Australia, Tourism, and Pacific Island Affairs of Australia, to reaffirm and further advance the close partnership between the Federated States of Micronesia and Australia.
President Simina conveyed his appreciation for Australia’s diplomatic presence in the FSM and highlighted the establishment of the FSM Embassy in Australia as a clear demonstration of the mutual commitment and expanding cooperation between the two nations. He expressed gratitude for Australia’s continued support in development assistance, including technical cooperation, education, maritime initiatives, climate resilience, and infrastructure development aligned with FSM’s national priorities.
Assistant Minister Green noted that she was pleased to see the East Micronesian Cable (EMC) now ready for service, describing it as a strong example of what can be achieved when like-minded partners work together to enhance regional connectivity and resilience.
The meeting also included discussions on aviation cooperation and broader connectivity initiatives, reflecting shared efforts to strengthen links across the North Pacific. Assistant Minister Green further expressed appreciation for FSM’s support and advocacy for Australia in international climate discussions, underscoring common priorities in climate resilience, climate finance, and resilient infrastructure.
Both leaders also discussed and looked forward to President Simina’s upcoming State Visit to Australia next month, which will mark the first official visit by a President of the Federated States of Micronesia to Australia since the visit of the late President John Haglelgam’s visit in 1988.
Both leaders reaffirmed their shared commitment to advancing practical collaboration that delivers lasting benefits to the peoples of the Federated States of Micronesia and Australia.
