President Simina Proclaims National Public Defender Day in the Federated States of Micronesia

PALIKIR, Pohnpei — March 18, 2026 — His Excellency Wesley W. Simina, President of the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM), has proclaimed March 18, 2026, as National Public Defender Day in the Federated States of Micronesia.

The proclamation recognizes the essential role of public defenders in upholding the Constitution, protecting the rights of individuals, and ensuring equal access to justice for all citizens, regardless of economic status.

In his proclamation, President Simina commended public defenders throughout the FSM—Yap, Chuuk, Pohnpei, and Kosrae—for their dedicated service and unwavering commitment to due process and the rule of law. He noted that recognizing this day reinforces the importance of their work and encourages continued diligence within the nation’s justice system.

The proclamation further acknowledges the contributions of the FSM Public Defender’s Office and its legal professionals, whose efforts ensure that justice remains accessible and equitable across the nation.
