His Excellency Wesley W. Simina is the Tenth President of the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM).
Wesley W. Simina is a Micronesian politician who has had a significant political career in the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM). Born on September 10, 1961, he has held various positions within the government.
Simina’s political journey began when he served as the Governor of Chuuk State, which is one of the four states that make up the Federated States of Micronesia. He assumed this role in July 2005 and held it until July 2011. During his tenure as Governor, Simina was re-elected to a second term in a runoff election in 2009, defeating Gillian N. Doone, the son of former Governor Gideon Doone.
In July 2011, Simina resigned as governor to take on the role of Chuuk’s at-large senator in the National Congress of the Federated States of Micronesia. This move allowed him to have a broader influence in the country’s political landscape. As Simina transitioned to his new position, the Lt. Governor of Chuuk, Johnson Elimo, assumed the role of acting governor.
In a special gubernatorial election held on August 24, 2011, Johnson Elimo won the election to complete the remainder of Simina’s unexpired term as governor of Chuuk. Elimo secured the victory with 7,945 votes, while his opponents, Alexander Narruhn and Redley Killion, received 6,913 and 3,692 votes respectively.
Simina’s political career continued to advance, and on May 11, 2015, he was elected as the Speaker of the Nineteenth Congress of the Federated States of Micronesia. This position further elevated his influence and responsibilities within the National Government.
The pinnacle of Simina’s political career came on May 11, 2023, when he was elected as the President of the Federated States of Micronesia during the first regular session of the 23rd Congress. This marked a significant achievement for him and solidified his position as the leader of the nation.
As President, Simina would assume the highest office in the country, responsible for leading and representing the Federated States of Micronesia both domestically and internationally. His presidency would involve making important decisions, implementing policies, and addressing the various challenges and opportunities faced by the nation.
Overall, Wesley W. Simina’s political journey showcases his rise from being the governor of Chuuk State to becoming the President of the Federated States of Micronesia. His experience and leadership within the FSM Government have contributed to his success and the trust placed in him by the people of Micronesia.
