PRESIDENTIAL EMERGENCY DECLARATION – TYPHOON SINLAKU

PALIKIR, Pohnpei – April 13, 2026 – His Excellency Wesley W. Simina, President of the Federated States of Micronesia, has declared a State of Emergency in response to the impacts of Typhoon Sinlaku.

The declaration follows the emergency proclamation issued by the Chuuk State Government on April 12, 2026. In response, President Simina convened his Cabinet today, April 13, 2026, to assess conditions and direct a whole-of-government response. The National Disaster Committee has since been activated and met with key partners this afternoon to align and coordinate ongoing relief efforts, and will continue to work in close coordination with its state counterparts to ensure a unified, timely, and effective response across all affected areas.

The declaration enables the mobilization of national resources to support relief, recovery operations, activate disaster response funding, and strengthens coordination between national and state agencies to safeguard lives and property.

As part of the national response, President Simina is deploying government assets, including patrol vessels and the FSM National Government vessel Navigator to assist in transporting relief supplies and emergency personnel to affected areas.

Residents are urged to follow official advisories, prioritize safety, and support one another as response efforts continue. Further updates will be provided as they become available.

The Government expresses its solidarity with all those affected and remains committed to supporting impacted communities through response and recovery.
