
PALIKIR, Pohnpei — June 23, 2026 — On June 3, 2026, Secretary of Foreign Affairs Ricky F. Cantero recently received a courtesy call from His Excellency Wu Wei, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to the Federated States of Micronesia and Dean of the Diplomatic Corps, at the Department of Foreign Affairs.
The meeting marked one of Secretary Cantero’s first official diplomatic engagements following his appointment as Secretary of Foreign Affairs and provided an opportunity to reaffirm the longstanding friendship and Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the Federated States of Micronesia and the People’s Republic of China.
Secretary Cantero expressed appreciation for China’s continued friendship and support to the FSM and reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to maintaining constructive and mutually beneficial relations with all its international partners.
Discussions focused on ongoing cooperation between the FSM and China, including engagement on regional issues and opportunities to further strengthen collaboration in support of the FSM’s national development priorities. Both sides exchanged views on matters of mutual interest and underscored the importance of dialogue, mutual respect, and cooperation in advancing shared economic and social objectives.
The meeting concluded in a cordial and positive atmosphere, with both sides reaffirming their commitment to further strengthening bilateral relations and promoting practical cooperation for the mutual benefit of the peoples of the Federated States of Micronesia and the People’s Republic of China.
The Federated States of Micronesia values its relationship with the People’s Republic of China and all its international partners and looks forward to continued engagement and cooperation in areas of mutual interest and shared development priorities.
