Secretary Cantero Receives United Nations Resident Coordinator Mamadou Kane

PALIKIR, Pohnpei — June 3, 2026 — The Honorable Ricky F. Cantero, Secretary of the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), received a courtesy call from Mr. Mamadou Kane, United Nations Resident Coordinator (RC) for the United Nations Multi-Country Office (UN MCO). The meeting marked Secretary Cantero’s first official engagement with Resident Coordinator Kane in his capacity as Secretary of Foreign Affairs.

The meeting provided an opportunity for both sides to reflect on the strong partnership between the Department of Foreign Affairs and the United Nations Multi-Country Office, founded on mutual respect, shared values, and longstanding cooperation.

Secretary Cantero expressed his appreciation for Mr. Kane’s leadership and service, recognizing his important role in strengthening collaboration between the Department and the United Nations Multi-Country Office.

Discussions focused on key areas of cooperation, including the One UN House Initiative, the security assessment of the UN MCO building, the Country Implementation Plan (CIP), and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Dialogues.

He also reiterated the UN MCO’s continued support for the FSM and its commitment to strengthening multilateral engagement in the years ahead.
